Songbird 1.1.1 Fedora RPM's Released
Songbird 1.1.1 dropped a few days ago and I'm happy to report that the Fedora RPM's are also now finished and available. A lot of work went into this release and Songbird now boasts a much reduced cpu and memory footprint, embedded album art fetching, and watch folders!
Now that Fedora 10 has also been out for quite some time, I'm dropping Fedora 9 builds to save space and bandwidth. If anyone would like an F9 RPM feel free to grab the SRPM provided and respin it. As far as I know the two should build the same, however, Songbird is beginning the rely on newer and newer gstreamer code, so it's possible you might be missing already upstreamed patches if you do decided to go F9.
Also, one thing to note about the current 1.1.1 under Linux. Myself and others have been seeing two bugs in particular that are quite annoying. The first is a javascript error that show up soon after a first run:
SBAppInitialize:SBRegisterSongbirdProtocol() TypeError: Components.classes['@mozilla.org/gnome-gconf-service;1'] is undefined
The relevant bugzilla ticket can be found over at bug 15432.
The second bug is an odd case where playback stops after a few songs and any attempt to start it back up hangs songbird. This seems to have been a confirmed case but was then fixed at some point in the beta stage. While I believe it was fixed somewhere, the issue is still creeping up and has been seen by multiple people. One of the developers believes it might be related to people who are using localized gstreamer packages that don't have their patches. There are a few bugs on this, but I'm attempting to reopen bug 15401.
If you have any experience or info on these bugs, please head over and put down what you know.
Last up, the official Fedora review process is coming along nicely. I've received a good deal of postive critiques and we're currently review the package against the Fedora 11 branch. But I encounter a problem and can not open it completely when I start songbird.
I try to start it from gnome terminal , and get the following error.

This looks like it could possibly be a bug that other people have been seeing. I recommend following the link below and reporting it to Songbird if you're still having problems. According to this thread the issue is related to your video drivers:

Many thanks for making RPMs. If it's of any use, I would like to share errors I'm getting:
on my PowerPc Fedora 10 install, launching Songbird yields no result. Nothing happens. I imagine the ppc build is of the least significance to the least number of users, so more importantly-
on my pc laptop x86_64 install, I get above javascript error at launch. i hit ok. then, upon attempting to play any tune, i get nothing ie, "nothing playing" in display. if i restart, sometimes it will show me what should be playing- but it will stay at 0 seconds. A couple of times I got a media core error:
"internal data flow error."
but that hasn't happened in recent restarts.
Since installing I have not been able to play a single song.
I have tried out the latest songbird, outside of linux, and think it's fantastic. Your efforts are greatly appreciated- I think once it's running smoothly Songbird will be best open source media player, more versatile even than closed iTunes and that some distro would do well to make it their default player. I look forward to running it in Fedora and will check back for updates. Thanks again.

I'm sorry you're having problems. Unfortunately, I have no way of testing the PPC builds, but the x86_64 should work and it sounds like a local configuration problem.
Make sure you have the necessary gstreamer packages installed and that they are the latest version. This sounds like you are missing the proper plugins. The standard ones are the following:
gstreamer
gstreamer-plugins-good
gstreamer-ffmpeg
gstreamer-tools
gstreamer-plugins-flumpegdemux
gstreamer-plugins-bad
PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin
gstreamer-plugins-base
gstreamer-plugins-ugly
"bad" and "ugly" and the most important for playing licensed media such as mp3's.

Glad to hear it! Yeah, I've done the same myself. Unfortunately, I can't do much about the javascript error right now which is why I'm hoping the dev team looks into it further.

I noticed fedorah 10 builds have disappeared. Is this because f11 is out and you no longer be hosting them or making the available? I downloaded Songbird 1.0 but of course would like to be on SG 1.2.

I'm only keeping up with the latest Fedora release. As Songbird moves on, they patch the hell out of gstreamer and some other libraries, so it becomes harder and harder to build on older distros. F10, for example, will require you to get the latest gstreaer packages and build them yourself.
